How I Stay On Top Of Deadlines (without Breaking A Sweat)
Just watched this and had to recommend this to all my friends. Great video and love the way you portrayed how not everything we do is a “waste of time”
Thank you for sharing.
Congratulations, Carl!!! What great news, my guru.
Thank you. 🙏
Hi carl, i have your book & working through the relevant videos. When in Todoist do you physically write the task in the time blocked section of your calendar. Or is just knowing what label in the calendar refers to the task & you refer to Todoist to see what needs to be done in that time block.
I use to push back on your advice of separating projects and tasks but I've finally come around to doing so the last 3 to 4 months and it's made a big difference. I use Todoist & Notion. Managing projects via Notion has been a game changer for me. Largely thanks to the database feature it lets me process them in stages making it really easy to track, plan, and execute. And I can view all of them using filters quickly so it doesn't require a bunch of scrolling. But taking your approach has allowed me to 10x my production workflow as well. Less managing and more doing. So thanks for that!
shifting to neutral is not a bad idea unless of course you're at the top of a hill.
I am at the beginning of a new and exciting chapter in my career. I stumble on you and your Evernote videos. You present thoughtful and frank views on planning and note-taking. I appreciate the tone and context of your conversation with the viewer. I appreciate your work and commitment to helping others find their systems, thus leading them towards success. Thank you!
Have you tried including an index at the notebook's front or back - or does scanning solve the potential problem of finding individual notes among the many pages of notes?
Carl, thanks for another great video and simple system that resonates with me. One question if I may- How are you using Priorities in your set-up now? Thanks!
Instant favorite!
It’s useful
I’m such a dolt, I didn’t even realise you could create a template in reminders. 🤦🏼♀️
Great advice. Thank you!
I like the term “protected time”, thank you
You're welcome 🙂
Really great video! "Listen to your body. " Yes!
Thank you. Glad you liked it.
Over planning….guilty as charged here.
I think we all are guilty of that one 🙂
First comment! Great video as usual.
Hahaha, thank you.
Just read it and thought it was fantastic!
Aww, thank you, Matt. So pleased you enjoyed the book.
More often than not I’m not here to listen to the contents regarding the topic. But just for the wisdom of the years.
Hahaha thank you Vincent.
Hi Carl, Like the Idea of the time sector system (TSS), but was wondering about how you practically incorporate using Siri or other voice assistance to add tasks to certain list. I've tried to use TSS with Apple reminders, but adding a task to a list named "next week" doesn't go down well and Siri just thinks I'm trying to schedule the task. Is this something you have considered or have any advice around?
Hi Aaron, I don't recommend allowing tasks to enter your system directly. Instead, I recommend throwing everything into your inbox directly to slow down and think before you let something in. Processing your inbox is a critical part of reducing the number of tasks that enter your system.
@@Carl_Pullein Great way to think about it. Will see how it goes!
I use Day One like this, but I've also started using Apple Notes as a Journal since they have some features now like tags and smart folders that lets me keep the journal as just part of my notes.
Hey Carl! Congratulations ❤ I want to buy this book (the Kindle edition), however, I am getting the error message: "We're sorry. We're unable to verify your location." Could you please advise what might be causing this issue? I am from Ukraine but do not have any problems purchasing other books. I even tried using a VPN to buy your book, but it still doesn't work 😢 UPD: Just ignore me. The next day, I could buy this book without any changes. Maybe there were lags on the Amazon side.
Hi Vladyslav, I don't know. I have no control over how Amazon processes orders. You may need to contact Amazon. An alternative place to purchase the book is directly from the publisher. www.rothstein.com/product/your-time-your-way/
@Carl_Pullein Carl, don't worry, I've updated my first message. The day after my message, the purchase transaction went through successfully. It seems there was an issue with Amazon when I first tried to buy the book. Anyway, everything is fine now, and I'm already enjoying the reading. Thank you for everything you do!
@@VladyslavZubko69 Excellent. Glad to hear that. Enjoy the book 🙂
The difference between the hammer and the todo app is, that the hammer is the best it can be. If the ever comes a hammer that optimized the workflow of the carpenter they would also buy it. Todo apps are still evolving and also changing. So what's the best now can be different at a year. By the way carpenters also have a nail-gun what is like the modern hammer...
Hi Carl - Love this setup, super helpful. Quick question: How would you handle "Follow Ups" in this setup? These are tasks that are outstanding and awaiting inputs from someone else. I like to capture these to remind myself to get inputs from others, but it's not actual "work" that need to get done (other than maybe sending a follow up email or slack).
Hmm that's a good one. It was something I realised was causing a big drag on my system, so I looked at the cause of it. Why did I need to follow people up? What I discovered was it was caused largely by my communication (I wasn't clear enough about what was expected and by when) and so I changed my communication style. This almost completely eliminated the need to follow up. For the rest, I will add a task labeled "Communications". Another one to watch out for is incomplete tasks disguised as a "follow-up". If you need to receive a presentation from a colleague, the task is not complete until you have the presentation. If you ask your colleague for the presentation file, that's not completed the task. Instead, you would reschedule the task (and perhaps add a note that you asked your colleague)
Congrats carl
Thank you 🙂
Congrats on the book Carl, big milestone. I was wondering if it will be available on Audible?
Thank you. I'm talking with my publisher about the audiobook. Hopefully soon.
How is this or is it any different from your time and life mastery course? I have all the videos and PDF’s for that…..so is basically the same thing I have already purchased?
This book inevitably contains much of what is in the Time and Life Mastery course. It also explains concepts and principles quite a bit more clearly.
Thank you. I truly appreciate your honest response that is very helpful
Congratulations Carl, heading to Amazon next!
Thank you so much. 😀🙏
Congrats, Carl! Order placed and looking forward to get in my hands.
Thank you, Stefan. 🙂
Congratulations! Looking forward to reading it :)
Thank you, Paul.
Just added to my Amazon wish list for my next order. Excited to read this one.
Aww thank you, Brad. 🙏
You’re welcome Carl! I have followed your videos with much interest and enthusiasm. I hope the book does well. You certainly deserve great success after years of hard work on your book. Keep up the great work!
@@bradhawkins8809 Aww thank you SO much, Brad. 🙏
Since I follow your videos and grateful for you and wasn’t going to order but decided to just purchase so I can get all the info. So now I’m excited for it to ship so thank you very much!
Aww, thank you, Kevin. Really appreciate it. 😀🙏
Ive been using everything since 2011 and not leaving / ive tried various apps through the years but always comeback. I use en daily ( with all my automations setup with iftt and zapier it would be hard to leave. I can speak my notes without even opening en , i use it for all my notes including daily notes like i learned from you carl. lol/ The search feature and web clippings and attachments cant be beat. I pay for en premium and its worth every penny to me.
Congrats for your book Carl. Can’t wait to read it!
Thank you so much, Nicolas. 🙏
No offence, Carl - but why do you track push ups and not calories with an app like MyFitnessPal if it's weight loss you're tracking?
all i want from a note taking app is a literal version of a pen and paper. Multiple pens, colors and papervariations. I just hate fidling around with Markdown formatting or right clicking and selecting stuff with my mouse 20 times; with a pen and paper you can just pick a different pen, add a sticky note, have the most questionable formatting ever, but you can DO IT. ofc having a side-note panel where i can quickly run bomb down stuff with keyboard in markdown formatting would also be nice
Congrats Carl! I just got my Kindle version and will read it while on vacay at the end of the month. Also, thanks for putting so much valuable content out there...and for free.
Thank you. I hope you enjoy it and have a wonderful vacation.
order on the way!
Thank you so much 🙏
Congrats Carl!
Congrats! I have learned so much from your online courses and channel 🎉
Thank you. 🙏
The book is landing on my doorstep today ☺️
@@baguapalm WOW! Thank you 🙏
One thing I’ve always been curious about as a sole proprietor: let’s say you have your PM system, and all the tasks are in it. Suppose a task has a due date. Are you just duplicating the same task in a task manager to get reminded on the date? (i.e. for a content calendar) And what happens if you have multiple tags on a task? Like one for the type of work (admin) and another for the client name? Is that not advisable in a setup like this?
Congratulations 🎉
Thanks Carl, insightful as always! I like it how you moved the "recurrent areas of focus" as a separate project. I am curious how you are now handling the waiting for tasks, are they out of todoist completely?
Congratulations, Carl! I look forward to reading it.
Thank you, Jeffrey. 🙏
Congratulations!
Thank you so much.
